Press ReleaseCadcorp launches CCTV Mapping System System provides crime prevention agencies with tools to manage CCTV information Digital mapping and geographic information systems (GIS) software developer, Cadcorp, has launched its CCTV Mapping System. The system provides users in local authorities, emergency services and crime prevention agencies with the tools to manage and share CCTV information in their area. The system has been designed and developed to meet emerging national requirements and standards relating to CCTV information. The CCTV Mapping System was designed in conjunction with Salford City Council which has been using the technology to help fight crime in the city for the past few months. Based on GeognoSIS, Cadcorp’s web mapping engine and utilising a familiar web interface, the system provides a visual context to CCTV information through the use of digital mapping and aerial imagery. It has the ability to show camera location and field of view in relation to particular incidents or areas; once a camera is identified, relevant details such as camera type, owner contact details, service history etc are readily available. Benefits already identified from use of the system include the ability to quickly determine areas covered by CCTV; reduction in the time taken to identify cameras that may have footage relating to particular incidents; the ability to define routes relating to particular incidents and to determine the potential of particular camera footage; optimisation in the planning, investment and development of CCTV coverage; the capability to link CCTV footage to other data used in analysis tasks and the ability to share information with other agencies quickly and efficiently. Mike O’Neil, managing director, Cadcorp said “We have developed this system with crime investigation in mind and believe the ability to share recorded information will help to improve the volume and quality of information gathered”. Cadcorp will be showing its CCTV Mapping System at BAPCO 2009, held at the Business Design Centre in London on April 22nd & 23rd 2009 and the National Crime Mapping Conference in Manchester, 7th-8th May 2009 About Cadcorp Editors: Close this
